Scaling CommCare Innovations for Better Community Health to Millions

In order to help save newborn lives across the globe, we propose three major objectives: (1) Integration of past and future innovations through development of a CommCare "App Store", (2) Scaling CommCare through building of mHealth capacity in 75 new partners over 3 years; (3) Evaluation of CommCare's impact on saving newborn lives in two large-scale controlled studies. In recent years, Dimagi has worked with many global health organizations, technology partners, and computer science institutions to develop and evaluate a wide range of innovations across science and technology, service delivery, and demand creation on the CommCare platform. CommCare projects have innovated in areas spanning antenatal care, neonatal care, family planning, and case management of child illness, as well as in processes for improving accountability and supervision. Now, looking ahead, CommCare is situated at an inflection point between, on one hand, preliminary piloting, decentralized innovation, and local evaluation, and, on the other hand, global integration and scale-up. We seek transition funding to complete critical next steps to reach wide-scale adoption of CommCare. While innovations within individual CommCare projects have demonstrated impressive results, much greater impact will be achieved when innovations can be more easily transferred between projects and combined with each other.
